A scraping API replaces your proxy pool, browser farm and retry logic with a single endpoint: you send a URL, it returns HTML, and the provider absorbs rotation, retries, CAPTCHAs and JavaScript rendering. You pay per successful request rather than per gigabyte, which changes the economics completely.

Per-request cost is the only comparison that matters

Plan price is close to meaningless on its own, because credit consumption varies enormously by feature. JavaScript rendering and premium-proxy modes consume multiple credits per request under most providers’ published multiplier tables, so a plan advertising a million credits may deliver a fraction of that in real requests. Compare effective cost per successful request on your own workload, not sticker credits.

API or raw proxies?

APIs win on hostile targets, because success-only billing absorbs the cost of retries that a per-GB proxy plan would charge you for regardless of outcome. Raw proxies win on high-success, high-bandwidth workloads where you are fetching predictable pages at volume and the retry rate is low. Plenty of teams run both: an API for the awkward targets, proxies for the bulk. See proxies for web scraping for the decision logic.

FAQ

What is the cheapest scraping API?

On verified plans as of 2026-10-02, Scrape.do at $29/month for 250,000 successful credits ($0.11 per 1,000), falling to $0.06 per 1,000 on its top tier.

Why are some prices missing?

ScraperAPI’s and Zyte’s pricing pages are JavaScript-rendered and did not yield rates to our verification checks. We publish no figure we have not read ourselves, so those profiles carry none until we can.

Do scraping APIs charge for failed requests?

The providers we have verified bill successful requests only, but credit multipliers for JS rendering and premium proxies mean effective cost still varies widely by workload.
