How much does a gigabyte of residential proxy traffic cost, and how fast is that price falling? We went back through seven years of archived pricing pages for 10 providers, read what each one charged, and compared it with what their live pricing pages say today. Short answer: a gigabyte costs nearly 40% less than it did in mid-2024. For the two providers we can trace back to 2019, it costs roughly half. Along the way, “50% off” has quietly become the normal way to show a price.
- median 100 GB rate today $2.88/GB
- GB Price Index 61 (Jul 2024 = 100)
- typical cut since Jul 2024 -43%

The headline numbers
- A gigabyte of residential proxy traffic costs about 39% less than in July 2024. Comparing the same 8 providers with themselves, our GB Price Index for a 100 GB monthly purchase is at 61 (July 2024 = 100). The typical provider cut its rate by 43%, and 6 of the 8 cut by more than a quarter.
- Getting started costs less than half what it did in early 2023. All 5 providers whose January 2023 pricing pages we could read have cut their entry price since, by 47% to 77%. Their median entry price went from $12.50/GB to $4.00/GB.
- In 2019, the smallest Smartproxy plan (now Decodo) worked out to $15 per GB. Today Decodo’s pay-as-you-go rate is $4.00. Oxylabs went from $12.00 to $6.00. Bright Data’s pay-as-you-go rate was $25.00/GB in December 2021; it is $8.00 today before any coupon.
- The same gigabyte costs up to 7× more depending on who you buy from. At 100 GB a month, today’s rates run from $1.00/GB (DataImpulse) to $7.00/GB (Bright Data). The median across 10 providers is $2.88.
- “Half price” is the new list price. 4 of 10 pricing pages we read today show a struck-through “regular” price or a discount code. Webshare’s page lists a “regular” price of $7.00/GB on every tier from 1 GB to 3,000 GB, which lets its biggest plan claim “SAVE 80%”. In January 2025 just 1 of 8 archived pages did this.
- The big drop came in the first half of 2025. The 100 GB index fell from 92 to 72 in six months, the steepest fall in our data. Webshare cut its 100 GB rate from $5.50 to $2.25 per GB, SOAX went from $5.60 to $3.40, and Decodo halved its pay-as-you-go rate from $7.00 to $3.50.

What a gigabyte costs today (2026-10-02)
These are the rates on each provider’s own pricing page today, for rotating residential proxies, billed monthly, in US dollars before VAT. “Entry” means the cheapest way to start. “100 GB rate” means the price per GB if you buy 100 GB in a month.

| Bright Data | $8.00 | $7.00 | pay as you go, list price before coupon; $499/mo plan at list $7/GB = 71 GB (coupon price $3.50) | $4.00/GB with an on-page coupon code (not used here) |
| Median (10) | $4.50 | $2.88 | Medians, not averages: one premium-priced provider shouldn’t move the figure. | |
Not in the table: Proxy-Cheap and Proxy-Seller only show “from” prices (or no price we could read), so there is no tier to compare. Storm Proxies sells by port, not by GB. NetNut’s site was seized in July 2026.
That median is what buyers pay. The people whose home connections carry the traffic get far less: PacketStream and Honeygain, the two bandwidth-sharing apps that publish a per-GB rate, pay $0.10 per GB, about 2% of the median list price. What Your Wi-Fi Is Worth compares what each app pays with what the bandwidth sells for.
The monthly GB Price Index
A simple median jumps around when providers enter or leave the sample. So the index only compares each provider with itself. For every period we take each provider’s price relative to its own July 2024 price, and average those ratios (geometric mean) across the providers we could read in both. July 2024 = 100. From now on we re-read every pricing page once a month and add a point.
Today the 100 GB index stands at 61, so a gigabyte bought at 100 GB a month costs about 39% less than in July 2024. The entry-price index is at 64. In July 2019 the 100 GB index was 131, though only two providers (Oxylabs and Smartproxy) can be read that far back.

“50% off” is now the default
Until 2025, most pricing pages simply listed a price. Now a growing share show a crossed-out “regular” price next to the real one, or ask you to type a code. We count the price you can pay without typing a code, so automatic on-page sale prices count, but coupon prices don’t. Where a page shows both, the CSV records both.
- Webshare has shown “50% off” on every tier since at least July 2025. By June 2026 the struck-through “regular” price had become a flat $7.00/GB for every plan size.
- Bright Data lists $8/GB pay-as-you-go, but every capture since mid-2025 shows a 40–50% coupon code on the same page.
- ProxyEmpire, Decodo and Oxylabs each ran code-based half-price offers during 2025–2026; NodeMaven shows a standing −20%.
Share of readable pricing pages showing a struck price or discount code: 2024-07 0/8, 2025-01 1/8, 2025-07 4/8, 2026-01 5/8, 2026-07 4/8, today 4/10.
Are those struck-through prices real? Our Proxy Pricing Transparency Report checks each one against monthly archive captures, and scores 12 providers on how clearly they disclose tax, unused-traffic, refund and KYC terms.
What we couldn’t verify
- IPRoyal: the Wayback Machine has no captures of its residential pricing page, so it appears in today’s table only.
- Pages built by JavaScript: some archived captures contain no prices at all (Decodo in 2022, Rayobyte in mid-2026, NodeMaven before 2026, Proxy-Seller throughout, Bright Data’s residential tab before mid-2020). We left those periods blank rather than guess.
- Bright Data before 2022: the pay-as-you-go rate wasn’t captured; only the $1,000/month plan was.
- “From” prices: Proxy-Cheap stopped publishing a tier table in late 2023 and DataImpulse’s pre-2024 pages only say “from $1”. These periods are blank.
Methodology (data pulled 2 October 2026)
- Product: rotating residential proxies, priced per GB, US dollars, monthly billing, excluding VAT. Annual-billing discounts are ignored.
- Entry rate: the price per GB on the cheapest way to start: pay-as-you-go if the page shows it, otherwise the smallest monthly plan.
- 100 GB rate: the price per GB if you buy 100 GB in one month. For fixed-size plans we use the best rate among plans of 100 GB or less. For dollar-commitment plans we divide the plan price by the rate. For volume bands we use the band that contains 100 GB.
- Discounts: we use the price you pay without typing a code. On-page automatic sale prices count; coupon-code prices are recorded separately and excluded.
- History: for each provider we pulled every archived capture of its pricing page from the Wayback Machine CDX API (2018 onward), picked the capture closest to 1 January and 1 July of each year (within ±75 days), and saved the raw HTML. A period with no capture in that window, or with no readable price, is a gap.
- Today: each live pricing page was downloaded on 2026-10-02 and read the same way.
- Verification: every number in the dataset is stored with the exact text it was read from. A script checks that this text appears verbatim in the saved page before the number is used.
- Index: for each period, the geometric mean of each provider’s price divided by its own July 2024 price, over providers readable in both periods; July 2024 = 100. The number of providers behind each point is in the table and the CSV. Plain medians are shown alongside with their n.
Limitations
- Small sample, especially before 2023 (two or three readable providers per period). Treat early figures as indicative.
- List prices aren’t what big customers pay: enterprise contracts are negotiated and not public.
- Providers define a “GB” and their pools differently, and SOAX now prices by country tier (we use Tier 1: US/UK/AU/JP). This is a price index, not a quality comparison.
- Six-month spacing means short promotions between captures are missed.
- Live prices change often. Everything here is as of the date shown.
